Health-Ecore at ISPOR Europe 2026: five posters and an issue panel session in Vienna

Health-Ecore at ISPOR Europe 2026: five posters and an issue panel session in Vienna

ISPOR Europe 2026 takes place in Vienna, Austria, from 8 to 11 November. Health-Ecore colleagues are presenting five posters and an issue panel session. The work spans vaccination strategies, oncology reimbursement, obesity, antimicrobial resistance diagnostics, pneumococcal modelling and dermatology.

Below is an overview of our sessions, including date, time, and the presenting authors present at the conference.

Foregone health gains from PASKWIL-negative oncology drugs in the palliative setting: a model-based analysis

The PASKWIL clinical relevance criteria were introduced in the late 1990s to guide decisions on expensive oncology drugs, and they still drive Dutch reimbursement today. Using a model of a hypothetical palliative treatment, this study shows that cost-effective therapies that fail PASKWIL represent a substantial loss of health gain and monetary value. Its conclusion is that PASKWIL’s role as a stand-alone threshold blocking cost-effective treatments should be reconsidered.

Obesity and workplace productivity in Europe: a targeted review of the evidence base for health economic modeling

Obesity’s harmful effect on work productivity is well established, but this review finds that the European evidence is not yet adequate for health economic modelling. That gap matters most where reimbursement requires a societal perspective: until it is closed, evaluations rest on assumptions for their most influential indirect cost component.

A discrete event simulation model for the health economic evaluation of a rapid AI-guided whole-genome sequencing platform for the diagnosis of ESKAPEE bloodstream infections: model development and methodology

Preliminary results suggest that DRAiGON, an AI-guided whole-genome sequencing platform, costs less and delivers more health benefit than conventional diagnostics for bloodstream infections caused by ESKAPEE pathogens. The savings come mainly from shorter hospital stays, and the health gains from earlier optimal treatment. The patient-level model follows each patient’s antibiotic decisions over time and links treatment delays to mortality, which gives a methodological basis for evaluating rapid diagnostics whose value depends on timing.

Vaccination coverage, an opportunity lost: are European health systems leaving health benefits on the table?

Vaccination is among the most cost-effective public health interventions, yet European coverage for influenza, COVID-19 and childhood immunisation consistently falls short of WHO targets. The panel asks whether European health systems have the HTA tools and political will to adopt and scale innovative vaccination strategies, including pharmacist-led programmes and the patient perspective on barriers to vaccination.

Systematic literature review on the performance of dynamic transmission models in pneumococcal disease

Good-practice guidance recommends dynamic transmission models for pneumococcal vaccination because they capture herd effects and strain replacement, but their predictive accuracy had never been tested empirically. This first assessment found that few studies even allowed such an evaluation. The preference for dynamic over static modelling therefore rests on theory rather than proven performance, and current recommendations may need re-examination.

Cost-consequence analysis of ruxolitinib 1.5% cream in adults with moderate atopic dermatitis in the Netherlands

Ruxolitinib cream is a non-systemic option for moderate atopic dermatitis that may delay escalation to conventional systemic therapy and, after that, to biologicals and oral JAK inhibitors. In the Dutch setting, using it before conventional systemic therapy was associated with cost savings compared with starting systemic therapy directly
